EWS round 2

So then, first actual meeting with the Spec R today, as I write this, it's just gone midnight and I've been up since 5am to drive down to Essex (100 miles/2hours away) to play with toy cars.... Ugh tired much!

To give the car a gentle break in, i only ran 21.5 boosted... Yeah it's the kids class, but who's counting.

The venue, is brilliant, about 14 rolls of carpet deep, and a good 32 metres long! Plenty of room to play with. I wasn't exactly enthusiastic about the layout but it turned out to be a really good one to race on.

Competition for the class wasn't exactly "deep" but there was some good drivers in there. Mainly ex HPI challenge world champ (and I'm sure other big races ;) ) winner James Hart, aswell as my long time buddy / occasional drinking partner and Wingman... Andrew Carter.

We were all in 21.5 because of the entry for 13.5 being booked up before we entered, so decided to do this on a bit of a whim.

At EWS, they run 5 Q and 1 final. Q is based on round by round. And after 3 "ok" runs and 2 proper messy runs, I Q 5th overall, which was an under achievement for the car, but should make for an interesting final. James Hart got TQ, and Carter got 4th in Q right infront of me.
Both mine and Carter's best runs during the day were identical to 2 decimal places!

For the final, I got an OK start, feeling that if I didn't loose too much time in the opening laps, I could challenge James for the win, lap time wise we had been very close all day (0.1 diff in best laps).
I made it up to 2nd by about lap 3, but James was a good 1.5 seconds up the road from starting 4 spots higher than me, it was just a little too much for me to catch up and in the end I ended up about 2 seconds off the win, which for the very first outing with the Spec R, I couldn't be happier.

I'm pleased to say that there were no issues all day, no broken parts, it was tweaked a coupled of times but loosening the top deck got rid of that in a jiffy.

As I'm updating this on my phone, I can't upload a set up sheet until later in the week, but I'll include the important bits here....

Car was really good with fresh diff, need to look at ways to keep the oil inside it, as the car gets loose when running low on oil.

Things to try for next time, 2000 diff oil. That's it.

Till next time. Ciao

P.S. the top 3 picture has me mid way through pulling a funny face... Poor timing lol
